Under the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR) a system comprising of one or more pressure vessels of rigid construction, any associated pipework and protective devices fall under the regulations. This includes refrigeration systems that contain vessels such as liquid receivers, shell / tube evaporators and condensers. Systems with a total installed power greater than 25kw need to have a written scheme of examination in place.
The user/owner should know the safe operating limits for refrigeration plant and these will be expressed as min and max temperatures. This is often provided by the competent person and recorded on your written scheme of examination.
It is also worth noting that compliance to pressure testing regulations will not be met by your annual service, this is a separate inspection and all written schemes need to be undertaken by a competent person with the written scheme of examination signed off by an IEng or CEng qualified engineer.
